Construction Plan for 16th & 17th Avenue, Islamabad
Background & Overview
On July 11, 2024, the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Muhammad Ali Randhawa, took decisive action in response to longstanding complaints from residents of several neglected CDA housing sectors in Islamabad, including E-12, I-16, I-15, I-14, and I-12. These sectors have suffered from delayed development, inadequate infrastructure, and lack of connectivity, causing significant inconvenience to residents.
In a move to address these issues, Chairman Randhawa personally visited these sectors along with high-ranking officials from the CDA and other relevant departments. His visit underscored the importance of resolving these challenges and improving the quality of life for residents in these areas.
Development of Alternative Roads from Kashmir Highway / Islamabad Motorway
One of the key outcomes of this visit was the directive to develop alternative access routes from the Motorway and Kashmir Highway to the aforementioned CDA sectors. The plan includes the construction of 16th and 17th Avenues, which will serve as vital arteries to enhance connectivity and ease of access to these areas.
16th Avenue: Enhancing Connectivity for G-15, I-15, and I-16
This much-needed road will begin its journey between sectors G-15 and G-16. It will then intersect with the Srinagar Highway, offering a convenient connection for residents of sectors I-15 and I-16. Furthermore, it will extend towards Girga Road, providing a significant benefit to nearby smaller housing societies.
17th Avenue: Connectivity for Eighteen & Ring Road
This avenue will originate from the G-17 Supreme Court Employees Housing Society and connect directly to the Ring Road. This vital link will benefit residents of Eighteen, Faisal Town Phase-1, University Town, CBR Town, Foreign Office Employees Cooperative Housing Society, and Upcountry and Silver City.
The construction of 17th Avenue will play a vital role in integrating these housing societies with the broader road network of Islamabad, thereby improving access, reducing travel times, and enhancing the overall livability of these areas.
Islamabad Signal-Free Roads & Corridors
In addition to the construction of 16th and 17th Avenues, the CDA Chairman also emphasized the expansion of signal-free roads and corridors. These developments are aimed at easing traffic flow, minimizing congestion, and creating more efficient routes for residents and commuters.
Benefits of New Infrastructure:
The construction of 16th and 17th Avenue will bring about several positive changes:
Reduced Traffic Congestion: By providing alternative routes, these avenues will alleviate traffic pressure on existing roads.
Improved Travel Times: Residents will enjoy faster commutes due to reduced congestion and more efficient traffic flow.
Enhanced Connectivity: The new roads will connect various sectors and neighborhoods, fostering a more integrated city experience.
Boosted Property Value: Improved accessibility often leads to increased property values in surrounding areas.
